
Robert Clive, one of the Most flamboyant personalities in the history
of British India. He was only 19 when he began his career as a clerk
for the East India Company at Fort St George. Soon tiring of Paper
Work, he became a soldier and fought many successful battles including
the carnatic wars, which established the company's rule in the South
India. Clive was given the Steward ship of Fort St George and later
become Governor of Bengal. The wealth he amassed in India led to
his trial, in England, on charges of corruption. Clive committed
suicide in 1774. |
